This also happened to me just recently, what I did to fix it was restarting the laptop by holding the power button for about 30 secs, the laptop should turn off then power up again. Due to a bunch of poorly interacting drivers and bloatware, the audio is very delicate on MSI laptops. I had fucked mine up somehow and so the inbuilt speakers were not working, but external speakers through HDMI / USB were. This is an instruction set for cleaning out your systems audio prefs and installing clean. Done on a 2019 GE75 9SF.
